
Chocolate Cake-in-the-pan
Ingredients:
- 2-1/2 cups sugar
- 1 cup Crisco OR 1/2 cup Crisco & 1/2 cup butter
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2-1/2 cups flour (all purpose)
- 1/2 cup cocoa
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 teaspoon soda
- 1 cup boiling water
Directions:
- Mix sugar and shortening
- Add in eggs
- Put soda in milk and stir
- Ad milk, flour, salt and cocoa
- Add vanilla
- After all ingredients are well mixed, add in the boiling water and stir
- Pour into greased cake pan (13” x 9”)
- Bake in 350 degrees oven approximately 35-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean
- Leave cake in pan and frost with Fudge Frosting
Fudge Frosting:
Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup cocoa
- 2 cups sugar
- 2/3 cup milk
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla (reserve for last step)
Directions:
- In a medium sized saucepan bring first five (5) ingredients to a boil, stirring continuously
- Once to a boil, lower heat and continue to gently boil for approximately 2 minutes
- Remove from heat, add in the vanilla and beat until thick
- Spread over cake in the pan…. Enjoy!
Optional: Sprinkle chopped nuts over the top
