Old fashioned Chess Pie Recipe

Old Fashioned, Homemade Chess Pie


  • 2 cups granulated sugar

  • 2 tablespoons flour

  • 2 tablespoons cornmeal

  • 1/2 cup margarine (or butter) softened

  • 5 egg yolks

  • 1 cup half and half

  • 1 unbaked pastry shell for a 9" pie


  1. Mix sugar, flour and cornmeal then cream well with softened margarine (or butter)

  2. Blend in egg yolks, beating well

  3. Add in half and half gradually, gently mixing in

  4. Pour into pie shell and bake at 425 degrees for 15 minutes; reduce heat to 375 degrees and bake another 30 minutes longer or until done. (Test for doness with knife or toothpick in center)

Hint: Cover the edges of the pie with aluminum foil to keep them from burning.
