Spiced Apple Rings
- 2 Large Red Delicious Apples
- 1/2 Cup Sugar (Can use Splenda for Sugar Free)
- 1/3 Cup Water
- 1-1/2 Teaspoon Cinnamon
- 1/4 Teaspoon Cloves
- 3-4 Drops Red Food Coloring
Wash the apples and cut them so that you have 'rings' approximately 1/4 inch diameter. Remove the core from each ring. (Do not peel the apples.)
In a large non-stick skillet, over medium heat combine the sugar, water and spices. Stir until the sugar is melted. Does not have to be boiling.
Add the food coloring and mix in to the sugar water.
Add in the prepared apple rings, layering them as necessary.
Cover with lid and cook for approximately 5 minutes turning the apples half way through.
Remove the lid and reduce the heat slightly.
Continue to turn and cook for approximately 5-7 more minutes until the apple rings are fork tender but not too soft.
Remove rings to a dish and pour the 'syrup' over them. Serve warm or cover and refrigerate.
