Spiced Apple Rings

  • 2 Large Red Delicious Apples

  • 1/2 Cup Sugar (Can use Splenda for Sugar Free)

  • 1/3 Cup Water

  • 1-1/2 Teaspoon Cinnamon

  • 1/4 Teaspoon Cloves

  • 3-4 Drops Red Food Coloring

  • Wash the apples and cut them so that you have 'rings' approximately 1/4 inch diameter. Remove the core from each ring. (Do not peel the apples.)

  • In a large non-stick skillet, over medium heat combine the sugar, water and spices. Stir until the sugar is melted. Does not have to be boiling.

  • Add the food coloring and mix in to the sugar water.

  • Add in the prepared apple rings, layering them as necessary.

  • Cover with lid and cook for approximately 5 minutes turning the apples half way through.

  • Remove the lid and reduce the heat slightly.

  • Continue to turn and cook for approximately 5-7 more minutes until the apple rings are fork tender but not too soft.

  • Remove rings to a dish and pour the 'syrup' over them. Serve warm or cover and refrigerate.
